HARTFORD - The 10th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team had a 9-0 win at Trinity College today in their return to action following their spring break trip. The Jumbos (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) won seven matches and were awarded two victories due to Trinity (5-3) forfeits.
Tufts had both an easy and a challenging win in doubles to start the match. The easy one came in the top spot where the veteran pair of Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido won 8-2. However, in #2 doubles the Jumbo duo of Elle Christensen and Casey Cummings (pictured) had to go extra for an 8-7 (6) win over Angelina Shyltsyna and Ashley Walker from the host Bantams.
Into singles, Cummings did not lose a set in her #3 match victory. Christensen at #1 singles and Dorr at #5 joined Cummings in adding singles wins to their doubles victories for the day. Madeline Suk posted a fourth singles win of 6-0, 6-3 against Walker, while Nicki Frankel started in the #2 match and won 6-4, 6-3.
Head coach Kate Bayard's team will split their squad and play Babson at home and Connecticut College on the road tomorrow.
