Men's Lacrosse Finishes Strong for 16-10 Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - The Jumbo men's lacrosse team outscored Hamilton College 7-2 in the fourth quarter, leading to a 16-10 NESCAC victory over the Continentals on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mac Bredahl netted two goals in the fourth quarter and finished with two goals and three assists. Jack Boyden also had a five-point game for Tufts (2g, 3a).

Tufts has now won six straight games, improving to 12-2 and 8-1 in the conference. The Jumbos will host Bowdoin College on Wednesday evening (Apr. 27) for the #1 seed in NESCAC. Hamilton dropped to 7-5 and 4-5 in conference.

Hamilton scored the first two goals of the game today from junior Matt Mirkovic and freshman Jayme Wilde. With one minute left in the first quarter Boyden would score Tufts' first goal to make the game 2-1 heading into the second. Hamilton's Seamus Fagan made six first-quarter saves.

The Continentals and Jumbos would trade goals in the second quarter. Freshman Louis Timmins would score the first goal for Tufts in the quarter, followed by a Tommy Swank goal, assisted by Camden Kelleher, to tie the score 3-3. After Tim Sommer tallied for the hosts, Swank and Boyden would score their second goals of the game back-to-back, before Rowan Brumbaugh scored one for Hamilton leading to a 5-5 score at halftime.

The two teams would again trade goals in the third quarter. Kelleher would score the first goal for the Jumbos creating a 6-5 lead. The Jumbos would have four one-goal leads in the period, with Hamilton answering three times. Duke Alf would score two goals in the frame, with the second at 3:19 closing the quarter out with a 9-8 Tufts lead.

Bredahl scored twice early in the fourth period to help Tufts keep its lead, however Hamilton stayed close behind. Then with a score of 11-10 with 10 minutes to go, Tufts would score the last five goals of the game to pull away from the Continentals. Swank would score man-up for his third goal of the game and defensive midfielder Joe Murtha (pictured) would net his second goal of the game, followed by back-to-back Kelleher goals. Sophomore Kevin Christmas scored the last goal of the game for the 16-10 final.

Conner Garzone was excellent again for Tufts with 16 saves on 26 shots (.615). Defenseman Kyle Adelmann finished with six caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Michael Ayers accumulated five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sommer, Britt Defeo and Christian Byrne led Hamilton with two goals a piece. Senior Quin Crowley won 12 of 14 face-offs for the hosts, Fagan finished with 15 saves and Kyle Mannherz had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Shots finished 51-47 for Tufts, while Hamilton won the ground-ball battle 46-42.
