MEDFORD - The Tufts University men's tennis team, ranked third nationally, shut out the #24 Colby College Mules 9-0 in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon for their 12th consecutive victory.
The Jumbos (13-1, 7-1 NESCAC) swept the doubles competition 3-0 as the team of Rishabh Sharda and Josh Belandres defeated Colby's (8-4, 4-2 NESCAC) Joey Barrett and Jake Cohen 8-3 in the #1 match. Isaac Gorelik and Paris Pentousis earned an 8-6 victory in the #2 match while the third doubles duo of Niko Hereford and Derin Acaroglu (pictured) won their match 8-4.
Tufts did not allow one match to reach a third set in their sweep of singles play. Gorelik defeated Barrett 7-5, 6-0 in the first singles spot and Sharda earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cohen in the #2 match. Vuk Vuksanovic played in the #3 spot for the Jumbos against Max Schuermann, winning 6-3, 6-3 and Pentousis defeated Sam Henry 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth singles.
Acaroglu battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win over James Bogdanovic in the #5 singles match and Belandres defeated Sriram Das 6-4, 6-0 in the sixth spot.
The Jumbos entered Saturday ranked #1 in the region while Colby came in as the ninth-ranked team in the region. The 9-0 victory gives Tufts their fourth shutout victory of the season.
The Jumbos will now host another NESCAC match against Hamilton College next Saturday, April 30 at 10 am.
