MEDFORD - The 10th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a 9-0 shutout of Bates College in NESCAC action on Thursday. The match was played indoors at the Gantcher Center.
Tufts (13-2, 6-2 NESCAC) would lose just five games total in doubles. Nicki Frankel and Rebecca Lim were first off with an 8-2 win in the second match. Maggie Dorr (pictured) and Caroline Garrido gave up just one game in the #1 doubles contest. Jumbos Madeline Suk and Zoe Kava finished off the doubles sweep 8-2 on the third court.
In singles, Frankel brought the Jumbo team lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Alexandra D'Aquino from Bates (5-10, 2-5) in third singles. The clinching victory came in the #1 match where Elle Christensen topped Anna Rozin 6-0, 6-2.
Tufts completed the shutout with victories by Suk in fifth singles (6-1, 6-1), Kava in #2 singles (6-3, 6-1), Dorr at sixth singles (6-1, 6-1) and Casey Cummings finishing it off at #4 (6-0, 6-3).
The Jumbos enter their final weekend of the regular season and will play Hamilton College at home on Saturday and then Amherst on Sunday.
