SOMERVILLE - The 10th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis started a day in which the Jumbos split their squad to play two matches with a 8-1 win over Babson College at Lower Campus Courts. It was Tufts' first home match of the 2021-22 season.
The Jumbos (6-1) swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The #2 combination of Madeline Suk and Zoe Kava and the #3 pair of Nicki Frankel with Rebecca Lim (pictured) both breezed to victories. Tufts got the sweep with a #1 win from Elle Christensen and Casey Cummings by an 8-5 score.
Tufts would quickly seal the match as singles begun. Frankel won 6-3, 6-0 over Babson's Emily Stouch in #3 single to put the Jumbos on the verge of victory. Lim earned the clincher, not losing a set in #6 singles.
Christensen had to retire from the #1 singles match against Babson's Oliva Stoffer, who was leading 6-3, 4-0. That would be Beavers' only point. Tufts finished off the victory with a #5 win by Suk, #2 success from Kava and lastly a 6-1, 6-2 win on the fourth singles court by Cummings.
The other half of Tufts' squad is at Connecticut College for a 2 pm match today.
