NEW LONDON, Conn. - Six Tufts University women's tennis players took care of business in a 9-0 NESAC victory for the team on the road at Connecticut College on Sunday. All six participated in doubles and played singles as the Jumbos shut out the Camels.
The Jumbos (7-1, 3-1 NESCAC) won convincingly in doubles, losing just seven games in the three matches. Kennedy May and Michelle Shub were the first Jumbos to finish with an 8-1 win for the third match. The #1 pair of Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido had an 8-3 victory next, then Kristin Shiuey (pictured) with Sophie Wax finished the sweep with an 8-3 score as well in second doubles.
Shub in sixth singles was the first Jumbo to finish, winning 6-0, 6-2. Shiuey clinched the team win with the Jumbos' fifth victory of the match, a 6-1, 6-3 final against Alexis Tsang in the #2 contest. Dorr at #1 singles (6-3, 6-3), Garrido at fifth singles (6-2, 6-3), Wax at #3 (6-2, 6-2) and finally May on the fourth singles court (6-3, 6-2) all won easily to finish off the shutout.
The victory was the second of the day for Tufts as the Jumbos split squads. The other half won 8-1 versus Babson at home earlier on Sunday.
Tufts has mid-weed action at home coming up against Brandeis University on Tuesday with a 3 pm start.
