SOMERVILLE - The 10th-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team won its eighth straight match today, a 9-0 final at home against #36 Brandeis University at Lower Campus Courts. Head coach Kate Bayard's Jumbos are now 8-1 this spring, with a winning streak that started on March 13 at Williams College.
Nicki Frankel and Rebecca Lim got Tufts started against Brandeis with an 8-2 win at #3 doubles. Zoe Kava and Madeline Suk (pictured) would soon follow at 8-2 in #2 doubles. The sweep was earned at #1 where Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido had an 8-6 victory over Bhakti Parwani and Sabrina Loui.
Singles wins came briskly. Casey Cummings improved the host's lead to 4-0 losing just one game in the third singles match. Lim was the clincher for the Jumbos taking a 6-0, 6-2 victory in her fifth singles match. Kristin Shiuey followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #6 before the closest match of the singles round - Frankel versus Loui - went to Tufts 6-3, 7-5. Maggie Dorr in fourth singles (6-3, 6-3) and Zoe Kava at #1 - where she defeated Parwani 6-4 and 6-1 - finished off the shutout.
The Jumbos have a NESCAC match at fifth-ranked Wesleyan University on Saturday starting at 10:30 am.
