CAMBRIDGE - Four Tufts University women's tennis individuals played into the singles quarterfinals on the first day of the Jumbos' 2022-23 season at the MIT Invitational on Friday.

Madeline Suk, sophomore
Sophie Wax and first-years
Lucy Mitchell and
Rachel Cranley all won twice on Friday to move from the round of 32 at the start to the quarterfinals.
Suk opened with a win against Julia Lendel of Amherst, the #5 seed, 6-2, 4-6, 10-3. Facing Tufts teammate
Michelle Shub in the round of 16, Suk advanced 7-5, 6-4. Wax's two victories came versus MIT Artemis Pados (scores not available) and teammate Steffy Julian (7-5, 6-2).
Making their collegiate debuts today, Mitchell and Cranley were undefeated. Cranley, seeded fourth in singles, won a pair of two-set matches, 6-2, 6-4 over Mia Kintiroglou of Amherst and 6-2, 7-6 against Bowdoin's Cara Hung. Mitchell had to go three sets to win both of her matches. After topping Yuka Perera from MIT 6-3, 1-6, 10-5, she defeated #2 seed  Amy Cui from Amherst 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.
The singles quarterfinals matches will be played tomorrow at 9 am. Jumbos will play consolation matches as well at the site.

Kennedy May and first-year
Nikki Kintiroglou advance out of the opening round of 16 due to a withdrawal by MIT's Sara Fernandez and Irene Huang. Tufts' pair will play in the quarters at 1 pm.
