Shub Falls in B Singles Final at ITA Regional Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN - Senior Michelle Shub of the Tufts University women's tennis team lost in the B singles championship match on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships hosted by Williams College.

After winning once yesterday to get to the Round of 16 in B singles, Shub had a busy four-match day on Saturday (B singles played eight-game pro sets until the finals). She defeated Katie Fleischman from Wesleyan 8-4 to begin the day. She then faced teammate Steffy Jullian in the quarters and won 8-4. In her highlight performance in the semifinals, Shub knocked off B #1 seed Jane Ladaga of Williams in a tie-breaker 8-7 (5). However, her run ended with a loss to Middlebury's Charlotte McCann 7-5, 6-3 in the B final.

In the A singles bracket, first-year Rachel Cranley lost to MIT #1 seed Sarah Pertsemlidis 6-2, 6-4 in Saturday's round of 16. Jumbo sophomore Sophie Wax went up against the #2 seed Olivia Soffer of Babson and led a set before losing 2-6, 6-3, 10-3.

Doubles action on Saturday saw Tufts' 9-16 seed Cranley with classmate Lucy Mitchell drop their round of 16 encounter with eighth-seeded Cara Hung / Jamilah Karah from Bowdoin 8-3.

Julian and first-year Stephanie Woodbury both won round of 16 B singles contests today before losing in the quarterfinals.
