BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Tufts University men's tennis team had two in A singles and two in the doubles bracket make it to the round of 16 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships hosted by Bowdoin College Friday.
Jumbo sophomore
Derin Acaroglu was part of both. He won twice in singles and also advanced with doubles partner
Vuk Vuksanovic on Friday. First-year
Alex Ganchev in singles and the doubles tandem of
Rishabh Sharda and
Lachie Macintosh also went on to the round of 16 on the first day of the tournament.
In doubles, both Tufts teams had byes in the first round. Vuksanovic and Acaroglu, the #8 seed in the draw, then defeated Nathan Jackson and Andrew Mueller from Middlebury 8-1 in the round of 32. Sharda and MacIntosh had an 8-6 win in their second-round match over Henry Bilicic and Jack Ginter from Trinity.
Ganchev, the #9 seed in the A singles competition, won 6-4, 6-2 over Harry Portnoy of Wesleyan in the first round. He then defeated host Bowdoin's Ethan Bradley 6-4, 7-6 (4.) Acaroglu opened with a 6-1, 7-6 victory against #9 seed Jake Cohen from Colby. In the round of 32, then breezed past Wesleyan's JT Bilski 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.
The third-seeded Sharda was leading his round of 32 singles match early before an injury caused him to default. Vuksanovic, the #9 seed, and first-year
Aarush Ganji both won opening A singles matches before losing in the second round.

Day two of the ITA Regionals at Bowdoin starts at 9:00 am.
