AMHERST, MA – The 12th-ranked Tufts University women's squash team cruised to a 7-2 victory on Saturday afternoon over No. 14 Amherst College. The Jumbos improve to 4-3 on the season (1-1 NESCAC) while the Mammoths are also 4-3 on the season.
It was an afternoon full of sweeps as six of the nine matches would be determined in three straight sets. Senior
Isa Schneider and sophomore
Nieve Monderer turned in the first sweeps of the afternoon in the seventh and fourth positions, respectively. Juniors
Sanjana Vissapragada in the sixth slot,
Ami Sao in the 8th slot, and
Ellyn Xu in the ninth position all earned 3-0 victories for the Jumbos as well. Junior
Caroline Chin battled for extra points but couldn't push extra sets as she fell to Callie Delalio in the third position with scores of 10-12, 5-11, 11-13.
Freshman
Vharsha Dinesh fell in four sets in the first position (11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6), but sophomores
Riddhi Joshi and
Aleezah Burhan would earn victories for the Jumbos in the only other four set matches of the day. Joshi defeated Lauren Weil 14-16, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 in the second position and Burhan turned in scores of 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 over Morgan Chaudhary in the fifth position.
The Jumbos return home to face Bowdoin College on Thursday, Jan. 19th, at 4:00pm. No. 16 Bowdoin is currently 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
