WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (January 21, 2023) - The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team earned an impressive 8-1 victory over 13th-ranked Williams College on Saturday afternoon, snapping a seven match winning streak for the Ephs. The Jumbos improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 against NESCAC opponents, while the Ephs drop to 5-1 in conference play and 8-6 overall.
Tufts started out strong with convincing wins by freshmen
Vharsha Dinesh, sophomore
Aleezah Burhan, and juniors
Sanjana Vissapragada and
Caroline Chin. Both Chin and Burhan dominated in straight sets, allowing less than 10 total points each. Chin turned in scores of 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 in the third position while Burhan defeated Deena Iqbal 11-5, 11-3, 11-3 in the 5th slot. Dinesh and Vissapragada contributed four set wins in the first and sixth positions, respectively.
In the second position sophomore
Riddhi Joshi continued to impress with a 3-0 win over Yu Quan Ng, but in the fourth position sophomore
Nieve Monderer would drop the only match of the day with scores of 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7. In other hard fought battles, Juniors
Ami Sao (8th position) and
Ellyn Xu (9th position) would secure 5 set wins for the Jumbos and senior
Isa Schneider (7th position) would exchange tight scores in the first three sets before taking down Roshni Pal 11-1 in the fourth and final set.
The Jumbos are back in action at 11:00am tomorrow, January 22nd, for another NESCAC match-up at Middlebury College. The No. 15 Panthers are currently 10-2 on the season and 5-1 in the NESCAC.
