Jumbo Women's Squash Tops Middlebury, 8-1

MIDDLEBURY, VT (January 22, 2023) -- The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash squad finished a strong week of action, knocking off No. 15 Middlebury College 8-1 in action from the Bostwick Family Squash Center. With the win, Tufts earned its third New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory of the week after knocking off Bowdoin College and Williams College as well. 

The Jumbos (7-3, 4-1 NESCAC) started the afternoon with a win at No. 3, as Caroline Chin rolled to a straight set win with scores of 11-6, 11-4 and 11-1. Chin has now won three straight matches, having not dropped a game in any of those victories. 

Sanjana Vissapragada would earned her fourth straight win and seventh in her last eight, topping Abbie Peterson at No. 6 to put Tufts up 2-0. Vissapragada is now 8-2 on the season after posting a 11-2, 11-3 and 11-4 win. At No. 8, Ami Sao helped extend the lead to 3-0 as she earned an 11-13, 11-7, 11-7 and 11-7 win over Kieran Suntha. 

The second wave of action was all Tufts as well, as first-year Vharsha Dinesh earned her third straight win at No. 1, knocking off Abby Holding 11-7, 11-8 and 11-1 to put the Jumbos within one of earning the victory. The clinching triumph for Tufts came at No. 5, as sophomore Aleezah Burhan won her fourth straight match with scores of 11-5, 11-4 and 13-11. Burhan is now 7-3 on the campaign. 

At No. 8, Ellyn Xu made the score 6-0 as she also won her fourth straight with a straight set win over Grace Santoro with scores of 11-3, 11-5 and 11-9. At No. 4, Nieve Monderer tallied her third win in the last four matches as she won in three games with scores of 11-6, 11-5 and 11-4. At the No. 2 position, Riddhi Joshi continued her stellar play of late, winning her fourth consecutive match with a 12-10, 11-7 and 14-12 win over Izzy Ronda. 

The final match ended in a retirement, as Isa Schneider was forced to call out against Maya Bardorf after each player had won a pair of games. 

The Jumbos will host No. 21 Wesleyan University on Friday, January 27 at 5 p.m. in the Tufts Squash Center in more NESCAC action.
