MEDFORD, MA (January 27, 2023) -- The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team ran its winning streak to five matches on Friday night, rolling past No. 21 Wesleyan University 9-0 for a home New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory in play from the Tufts Squash Center.
The Jumbos won the first seven spots in the ladder by straight sets on Friday, while overcoming early deficits at No. 8 and No. 9 to earn the sweep of the Cardinals. Tufts (8-3, 5-1 NESCAC) saw first-year No. 1
Vharsha Dinesh breeze to an 11-1, 11-2 and 11-4 win over Avika Pande, while
Riddhi Joshi also cruised at No. 2 with a 11-6, 11-6 and 11-1 victory.
Caroline Chin had no problems at No. 3, knocking off Aanya Anand 11-4, 11-7 and 11-7 for her fourth straight win to move to 7-4 on the season.
Nieve Monderer got back into the win column with a nice 11-2, 11-4 and 11-4 win over Portia Pliam, as she is now 4-1 at the No. 4 spot in the lineup this season.
Aleezah Burhan was solid and strong in her victory at No. 5, upping her mark this year to 8-3 with an 11-5, 11-7 and 11-2 win.
Sanjana Vissapragada notched her team-best ninth win of the season with an 11-7, 11-0 and 11-8 win over Jaclyn Dichter, while
Ami Sao won her fifth straight match with an 11-2, 11-9 and 11-2 win at No. 7.
At No. 8,
Ellyn Xu started a little slow as she dropped the opening game 11-8 but rallied with three straight wins to earn an 8-11, 11-1, 11-2 and 15-13 victory. At No. 9,
Kate Chang also dropped the first contest but outlasted Sydney Smith 8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 7-11 and 11-7 for the victory.
The Jumbos will honor their lone senior
Isa Schneider on Saturday morning for Senior Day, hosting Hamilton College in the Tufts Squash Center at 11 a.m. in more NESCAC play.
