PALO ALTO, CA (January 4, 2023) -- The No. 12 Tufts University women's squash squad won the bottom six flights Wednesday afternoon against No. 11 Stanford University, defeating the Cardinal 6-3 in non-conference action from the Arrillaga Center for Sports & Recreation.
The Cardinal (0-3) earned wins at No. 1 through No. 3, though all three matches were very close and competitive. At No. 1, Stanford's Si Ma topped
Vharsha Dinesh 3-1 with scores of 15-17, 11-6, 12-10 and 11-4, while Khuski Kukadia bested
Riddhi Joshi 8-11, 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7 at No. 2. In the No. 3 spot, Lucia Bicknell topped
Nieve Monderer 3-0 with three tight scores of 11-7,11-9 and 11-7.
The Jumbos (3-2) would dominate the bottom half of the lineup though, as
Caroline Chin fell 11-3 in the first game but rallied with a 11-3, 12-10 and 11-2 win to earn the 3-1 victory. Chin upped her record to 3-2 on the season, and has won two of her last three matches.
At No. 5,
Aleezah Burhan also dropped the first game before rallying for a four-game win, topping Leah McGillicuddy 7-11, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-7 to also chalk up her third win of the season.
Sanjana Vissapragada followed the theme of coming from behind, falling in the first game before besting Isabella Rolfe 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-7 in an exciting match at No. 6. The victory was Vissapragada's third straight win Wednesday.
The winning ways continued at No. 7 as
Ellyn Xu rolled to a three-game win with scores of 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5 over Abigail Alemayeho. At No. 8,
Ami Sao also moved to 3-2 on the season with a quick 11-4, 11-5 and 11-6 victory.
Kate Chang won by default at No. 9 to complete the match scoring.
Tufts will now look forward to a make-up match with No. 1 Trinity College (CT) in Hartford, CT Tuesday, January 10.
