Tufts Women's Tennis Continues Action At NEWITTs Saturday

NORTHAMPTON, MA (October 7, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's tennis team saw Natalie Hu and Stephanie Woodbury move into the consolation finals at the 2023 New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) in play from Smith College Saturday. 

The Jumbos saw Hu and Woodbury start the day with a 2-1 win over Endicott's top duo, as Hu defeated Lejla Guster 8-5 before the pair bested Guster and Ripley Uyeda 8-4. In the consolation semifinals, Tufts took both singles matches as Hu knocked off Kim Liao 8-6 while Woodbury needed a tiebreaker to top Alaina Kolli of MIT 8-7(4). Hu and Woodbury will battle Saina Deshpande and Anastasia Samets in the consolation finals of the "A" draw. 

Rachel Cranley and Sophie Wax were topped 2-1 in the consolation opening round, falling to Deshpande and Samets in singles before earning an 8-6 win in doubles play over the MIT duo. Zoe Kava and Rebecca Lim also picked up a win during doubles 8-3 before dropping both singles matches to MIT's top pair of Liao and Kolli. 

In the "B" draw, Nikki Kintiroglou and Steffy Julian were bested by Smith College's Lili Goshgarian and Clara Goshgarian 3-0. 

Hu and Woodbury will look to earn the consolation title Sunday in the final day of the action from the NEWITTs.
