HARTFORD, CT (November 19, 2023) -- First-year
Maria Arsenieva picked up a victory at No. 5 Sunday for the No. 12 Tufts University women's squash squad, but the Jumbos couldn't push by the No. 2 Bantams of Trinity College in dropping an 8-1 decision on the road.
Arsenieva picked up the only win on the day for the Jumbos, as she upped her mark as a collegiate to 2-0 with a gritty four-game win with scores of 7-11, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-8. The win for the Jumbos marked a turning point for the program, as it was the first victory over a Bantam player since Tufts earned its only win against Trinity back in 1995.
In exhibition action,
Mafi Pinot was able to pick up a four-set victory over Amanda Miller with scores of 11-3, 11-13, 11-2 and 11-6. In the main draw, No. 1
Vharsha Dinesh pushed Malak Ashraf Kamal but was topped 11-4, 11-6 and 11-9, while
Riddhi Joshi fell at No. 2 for the Jumbos to Jana Safy 11-7, 11-3 and 11-4.
Nouran Youssef of Trinity topped
Caroline Chin in three games at No. 3, while Madeleine Hylland defeated Tufts No. 4
Aleezah Burhan 11-5, 11-1 and 11-3 at the No. 4 position. At No. 6,
Sanjana Vissapragada was knocked off by Janna Ashmawy in three games, 11-6, 11-2 and 11-7, while
Nieve Monderer fell to Fabiola Cabello 11-9, 11-7 and 11-5 in a very competitive match at No. 7.
First-year
Chloe Bergam was defeated at No. 9 11-4, 11-5 and 11-3, while senior
Ellyn Xu played well before falling in three games with scores of 11-5, 11-6 and 11-9.
The Jumbos will have some time off before returning to action on Saturday, December 2 at 11:30 a.m. to battle Chatham University at Cornell University.
