ITHACA, NY (December 2, 2023) -- The No. 12 Tufts University women's squash match only dropped one match on Saturday afternoon at Belkin Squash Center on the campus of Cornell University, knocking off No. 21 Chatham University for their second win of the 2023-24 season.
The Jumbos (2-1) earned five victories in straight sets on Saturday, while
Riddhi Joshi clinched the victory with a 12-10, 11-9 and 11-4 win at the No. 2. Tufts No. 1
Vharsha Dinesh started the day with an 11-5, 11-8 and 13-11 triumph over Sofia Ramos, while
Nieve Monderer bested Sofia Pinto Combita 11-6, 14-12 and 11-9 at the No. 6 position.
Tufts earned a win at No. 9 for
Chloe Bergam by default, and
Ellyn Xu dropped just three total points in an emphatic 11-1, 11-1 and 11-1 win over Yukta Rana at No. 8.
Sanjana Vissapragada also was dominant at No. 7 with an 11-1, 11-2 and 11-1 win, and first-year
Maria Arsenieva rallied for a four-game win over Vasundhra Vasanthan 9-11, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-9 to stay unbeaten this season.
At No. 3
Caroline Chin had the most exciting match of the day, as she twice came back from game deficits to earn a hard-fought, five-set win with scores of 5-11, 11-2, 11-13, 11-4 and 11-9. Chatham's only win of the day came at No. 5, as Clara Braga topped
Aleezah Burhan 11-4, 11-4 and 11-6.
No. 12 Tufts will stay in Ithaca to take on No. 9 Cornell University Sunday at noon in the second of two matches this weekend in upstate New York.
