PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 18, 2023) -- The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team saw its chances of winning the Kurtz Cup end on Saturday afternoon, as the Jumbos were bested by No. 10 Dartmouth College 7-2 in action from the Penn Squash Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Jumbos were able to pick up wins at No. 3 and No. 5, but the Big Green controlled the bottom of the ladder to pull out the victory.
Caroline Chin was a winner for Tufts at No. 3, winning in three games with scores of 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7 over Jesse Brownell. Chin upped her record to 12-7 on the campaign. At No. 5,
Nieve Monderer chalked up her 12th win of the season with an 8-11, 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7 win over Priya Verma for Dartmouth.
Five of the other seven matches would go longer than three games, but unfortunately for the Jumbos all of the five would go in the favor of the Big Green. At No. 1,
Vharsha Dinesh was outlasted by Claire Aube 3-1 with scores of 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, and 11-8. Dartmouth's Emily Schuster topped
Riddhi Joshi in four games with scores of 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 and 11-8 in a very competitive match at No. 2, while Neeya Patel knocked off
Sanjana Vissapragada in five grueling games, 11-9, 11-13, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5.
Senior
Isa Schneider was topped in four games, as Chelsea Cho earned a 4-11, 11-9, 11-1 and 11-7 win at No. 7, and
Ellyn Xu was knocked off by Aubrey Lennon 9-11, 6-11, 11-6 and 11-8. Callie Worth earned an 11-4, 11-6 and 11-4 win at No. 9 over
Ami Sao, and
Aleezah Burhan was topped at No. 4 by Ellie Burke, 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7.
The Jumbos will move into the consolation final in the Kurtz Cup at the CSA Championships Sunday, taking on No. 12 Stanford University at 11:30 a.m. in the 2022-23 season finale.
