MEDFORD, MA (May 9, 2023) -- The No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse was selected as a first weekend host on Sunday night and will host No. 10 York (Pa.), No. 19 Cabrini, and Emmanuel College. The games will start on Saturday at noon in the 2023 Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament Second and Third Round games on Bello Field. All four teams this weekend won their conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Tufts vs. Emmanuel All-Time
These two programs have met three previously with the most recent coming in 2016. The Jumbos are 3-0 against Emmanuel all time, picking up wins in 2014, 2015, and 2016. All three wins came in the NCAA Tournament, and they were played at Bello Field.

A Look at the Jumbos (18-0, 10-0 NESCAC)
Tufts University makes its 15th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament this weekend, and its 14th consecutive trip into the playoffs as a program. Tufts has won three national championships and has been an NCAA finalist five times.
The Jumbos are coming into the postseason after a runaway New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship victory over No. 5 Middlebury College, as Tufts scored the first 10 goals of the game and picked up the 19-6 victory on Bello Field. Prior to that, the Jumbos defeated Amherst in the NESCAC Semifinal game, 20-13.
Offensively, the Jumbos have gotten another stellar season from senior standout
Jack Boyden. Boyden was named a Tewaaraton Award semifinalist earlier this season, racking up an impressive 139 points with 60 goals and 79 assists. This season he has seven games this season where has recorded 10 points or more.
On the same attack line as Boyden,
Kurt Bruun who after missing all last season with an injury, has comeback even stronger, posting 91 points on 53 goals and 38 assists. He has three assists in each of the last three games. Also on attack,
Tommy Swank has 60 goals and 19 assists for 79 points. He has scored 10 man-up goals this season.
Running out of the midfield, first-team All-Conference selection
Charlie Tagliaferri has doubled his production from last year with 33 goals and 11 assists for 44 points. Freshman
Jack Regnery has been solid with 24 goals. The Jumbos have 10 players that have 10 or more goals this season.
On the defensive side, the close defense trio of
Kyle Adelmann,
George Panagopoulos, and
Joey Waldbaum, have been stellar all season. Adelmann is second on the team in ground balls with 68 and caused turnovers with 35. Waldbaum was a first-team all-conference selection with 66 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers. Panagopoulos has caused a turnover in four of his last five games.
In goal,
Conner Garzone has been solid all season with a 55.1 save percentage and 10.35 goals against average.
Tufts has the No. 1 scoring offense averaging 21 goals per game. They are second at Division III in ground ball per game with 48 a game.
Head coach
Casey D'Annolfo comes into the postseason with 100 wins for his career, picking up his 100th win in the NESCAC Championship versus Middlebury.
A Look at the Saints (16-5, 9-1 GNAC)
Emmanuel travels to Medford coming off a 12-7 win over Maine Maritime in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Saints received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament thanks to a 16-8 victory over Saint Joseph's (CT) in the Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) title game.
Emmanuel is making its fourth ever appearance in the Division III men's lacrosse NCAA Tournament and it is their first appearance since 2016. They are 1-3 in the NCAA Tournament as they picked up the program's first NCAA Tournament win against Maine Maritime.
Ryan Castle and Cole Cloney pace the offense for Emmanuel as each have scored more than 50 goals this season. Castle, a senior, has scored 53 goals along with 24 assists for a team leading 77 points. Against Maine Maritime, he scored three goals and had two assists for five points. He also has the second-most goals in program history with 130. Cloney is a freshman and had also scored 53 goals this season with eight assists for 61 points. He has scored in every game he has played in and has scored five times in a game three times this season.
Thomas Quigley is another key part of the offense for Emmanuel as he is a balanced player with 36 goals and 31 assists for 67 points. In two of the last four games, he has recorded five points including four goals and an assist in the GNAC Championship game. Colin Dickinson is a 20 goal-scorer for the Saints as they have seven players with 10 or more goals this season.
Defensively, Paul Hardcastle leads the way with 39 caused turnovers and 47 ground balls this season as a freshman. In total Emmanuel has 14 players that have caused 10 or more turnovers with Derek Delvecchio causing 28 turnovers and scooping up 89 ground balls. Even Decker has collected 51 ground balls with causing 23 turnovers.
Starting in net is senior Randy Castle, who has a record of 16-3 this season with a 65.1 save percentage. He has made 257 saves this season for 7.84 goals against average.
Emmanuel is coached by Trevor Craven who is in his seventh season as head coach. He has a record of 31-53 as head coach of the Saints guiding them to the GNAC playoffs every season. Before becoming the head coach at Emmanuel, he was the head coach at Becker College for one season where he went 4-12.
A Look At York (PA) (14-5, 8-0 MACC)
York comes into the weekend with a nine-game winning streak have gone a perfect 8-0 in the Middle Athletic Conference Commonwealth (MACC). York defeated Stevenson in the championship game 14-9.
York is making their eighth appearance in the Division III men's lacrosse NCAA Tournament and have made it seven consecutive years. They are 13-7 all time in the NCAA tournament and went further than any team previously had advanced, as they went to the Final Four last season, losing to Union, 11-8.
On the offensive side, Senior Will Harnick leads the way as he has scored 71 goals this season to go with 12 assists for 83 points. His 71 goals is fifth in Division III. Ben Mayer is second on the team in goals with 43 along with 22 assists for 65 points.
JD Townsend has been solid all season scoring 29 goals and adding 10 assists, while Michael Russo is another 20 goal-scorer for York with 21 goals. In total, 10 players have 10 or more goals for the Spartans.
Defensively, four players have caused 10 or more turnovers as Nick Biava leads the team with 32. Ethan Greene has caused 13 while scooping up 55 ground balls. Brent Blackmon has 40 ground balls.
In goal, Jack Keller, has a 60.6 save percentage and has only allows 63 goals for 6.96 goals against average.
Stevens has the No. 2 scoring offense and ranks inside the top five in both total assists and assists per game.
The Spartans are coached by Brandon Childs, who has an impressive 175-51 record while at York. He is the winningest coach in program history and guided them to their first Final Four last season. Prior to York, Childs coached at Eastern University where he went 28-19.
A Look At Cabrini (14-4, 6-0 AEC)
Cabrini enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4 record winning eight of the last nine games including going 6-0 in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC). They defeated Marymount University in the championship game 23-6.
The Cavaliers are making their 20th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and have won their conference tournament 21 times. Last season they made the NCAA Third Round losing to Salisbury 13-8. They have an overall NCAA Tournament record of 21-19 and won a national championship in 2019 defeating Amherst, 16-12.
Cabrini is led by Connor Herriaz who in his first year has 41 goals and 53 assists for 94 points. On attack with Herriz is senior Dillon McManus who is the leading goal scorer with 57 along with 22 assists for 79 points.
Austin Bolton is third on the team in goals with 24 adding 17 assists for 41 points, while Matt Vanaman has 21 goals this season. In total, 10 players have scored 10 or more goals this season for Cabrini.
Defensively, Matt Hughes has caused 16 turnovers and 31 ground balls, while Bear Evans is right behind him with 15 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls. Zack Kaut has 23 ground balls.
Connor Watts mans the net for the Cavaliers with a 52.3 save percentage and 9.19 goals against average.
Steve Colfer is the head coach of Cabrini in his 23rd season in charge. He has a 329-85 record as head coach of the Cavaliers, leading them to a National Championship in 2019.
