Three Jumbos Tabbed To ABCA All-Region 1 Squads

MEDFORD, MA (May 30, 2023) -- The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced its 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region squads on Tuesday morning, and the Tufts University baseball team was honored with three selections. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

Senior reliever Brendan McFall was tabbed as an All-Region I Second Team honoree at pitcher, while senior outfielder Jimmy Evans and senior hurler Connor Kinney were selected to the All-Region Third Team on Tuesday.

McFall had a sensational season out of the bullpen for the Jumbos, as the power right-hander finished the season with a 2.13 ERA, as his nine saves are tied for seventh in the nation while leading the league. McFall tossed 25.1 innings this season, allowing 20 hits while fanning 27 hitters and walking just seven all season. Batters hit .215 off him in 2023, and he appeared in a 20 games on the year allowing just five earned runs all season.

Evans also earned his second All-Region Third Team selection, as he was a 2022 Third Team selection for the Jumbos. Evans leads the squad with a .324 batting average, adding an OPS of 1.005 while leading the team in hits (45), doubles (17) and RBI (42). Evans slugged .561 for the season, has stolen seven bases in nine attempts.

Kinney was first on the squad with 61.2 innings pitched this season, adding two complete games and a shutout to his resume. Kinney went 5-1 on the campaign, striking out 41 batters while walking only 15 all season. He tossed a complete-game shutout against Chapman on March 24, and also tossed a three-hit, complete game against Colby College on April 28.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
