MIDDLETOWN, CT (September 23, 2023) -- Sophomore
Stephanie Woodbury and first-year
Natalie Hu continued their trek through the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional in doubles, as the pair earned a pair of victories to move in the semifinals on Sunday afternoon.
The duo started the morning with an emphatic 8-5 win over No. 5 seed Yuu Ishikawa and Erica Ekstrand of Williams College to move into the quarterfinals. Once there, Hu and Woodbury would advance over No. 4 seed Bhakti Parwani and Rebecca Suarez of Brandeis University with a walk-over due to injury.
The duo will head into the semifinals Sunday looking for another upset, as the Jumbo pairing will take on Olivia Soffer and Matia Cristiani of Babson College. Two other duos played for the Jumbos on Saturday, as
Zoe Kava and
Rebecca Lim were topped 8-3 in the Round of 16 by Jane Ladaga and Margaux Molyneux of Williams College.
Rachel Cranley and
Sophie Wax also were topped by No. 2 seed Amy Delman and Sahana Raman of Middlebury 8-3.
In singles play, Cranley was topped by Leila Epstein 7-6(3), 6-0 in the Round of 16 on Saturday. Hu was also in the "B" draw of singles action, but it was cancelled due to rain and limited courts.
Action will begin on Sunday morning with the semifinals for doubles in Middletown, CT at Wesleyan University in the final day of the ITA Regionals.
