MOUNT BERRY, GA (October 10, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's tennis team had a great opening day of action at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup, as
Vuk Vuksanovic won his opening round singles match while both doubles' duos also picked up first round action.
Vuksanovic, seeded No. 2 in the draw, cruised past Cameron Yang 6-1, 6-1 in the first round, and will now take on Carnegie Mellon University's Alex Feies Friday at 11:00 a.m at the Rome Tennis Center.
In doubles' action, both Tufts' pairings moved into the quarterfinals on Friday with big wins.
Javier Gonzalez and
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis knocked off Matthew Robinson and Warren Pham 6-4, 6-4 of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and will now take on Denison University's Ethan Green and Kael Shalin Shah. The Denison duo knocked off the top seed from RPI Thursday 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
On the bottom of the bracket,
Alex Ganchev and
Sacha Maes kept their strong play going with a big 6-4, 7-5 win over the No. 2 seed from Emory University comprised of Christian Liew and Ruilin Feng. Ganchev and Maes will now take on a conference foe, battling Connor Griff and Antonio Jose Chavez of Hamilton College Friday at 3 p.m.
Semifinals will be Saturday afternoon, with the finals being contested on Sunday afternoon.
