MOUNT BERRY, GA (October 11, 2024) -- Junior
Alex Ganchev and classmate
Sacha Maes continued their run through the doubles main draw with another victory in day two of the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup Friday afternoon. Fellow doubles pairing
Javier Gonzalez and
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis fell in the quarterfinals, while
Vuk Vuksanovic was defeated in his quarterfinal singles' match.
Ganchev and Maes were taking on some familiar foes in Connor Griff and Antonio Jose Chavez of Hamilton College, but it was all Jumbos as they rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the Rome Tennis Center (RTC). The pairing moves into the semifinals where it will take on Emil Grantcharov and Derek Hsieh of the University of Chicago. That match will be Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. again at the RTC.
Gonzalez and Mastrogamvrakis saw their trip in the main draw come to an end on Friday, as the duo was topped by Ethan Green and Kael Shah of Denison University, 6-1, 6-1. The pair will now battle Allen Gong and Dylan Blenkiron of Johns Hopkins University Saturday at noon in the North consolation bracket.
In singles play, Vuksanovic had things going early on and cruised to a 6-2 first set victory over Alex Feies of Carnegie Mellon University. Unfortunately, Feies would battle back to outlast Vuksanovic 7-6 (7) in the second set to force a third. In the third set, Feies used the momentum to post a 6-2 set victory to claim the match. Vuksanovic will take on John Lasanajak of Emory University Saturday at 11 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
All action on Saturday will be at the Rome Tennis Center.
