CAMBRIDGE, MA (November 17, 2024) -- The No. 13 Tufts University women's squash squad finished up a long and demanding opening weekend on Sunday, following Saturday's test against No. 2 Trinity College with another strong test with No. 1 Harvard University Sunday afternoon. In the end, the Crimson showed its depth in a 9-0 win for the hosts inside Murr Center.
The action kicked off with Caroline Fouts, who was first on court, topping Sohni Vermani in a strong 3-0 win (11-3, 11-1, 11-9). Next, Saran Nghiem took to the court against Maria Arsenieva, and secured a 3-0 win with set scores of 11-6, 11-2, and 11-1.
Habeeba Eldefrawy followed suit, defeating Riddhi Joshi 3-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-4), and at the No. 4 spot Lucie Stefanoni showed her clinical finishing, defeating Anika Goyal 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-4).
The momentum continued as Molly Stoltz overcame Aleezah Burhan at No. 5 in a fast-paced 3-0 win, and Ocean Ma then followed up with a similar performance, defeating Indira Moshi 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-6) at the No. 6 spot.
The match of the day came at the No. 7 spot, where Sarita Popat faced a spirited challenge from Sonya Bajaj. After dropping the first game 7-11, Popat came back to win three consecutive games 11-7, 11-7, and 11-7 to claim a 3-1 victory.
Emma Carney was quick to follow, taking down Sora Karanja 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-7) at the No. 8 position.At the No. 9 spot, Ella Galova rounded out the sweep with a 3-0 win over Mafi Pinot (11-6, 11-5, 11-3) at the final spot in the lineup.
The Jumbos will head into the Big Apple on Friday, November 22 at 5 p.m. to take on No. 9 Columbia University in a strong test for Tufts this weekend.
