PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 29, 2024) - The No. 12 ranked Tufts University women's squash team competed in the first round of 16 in the CSA National Collegiate Team Championships against No. 5 ranked Yale University Thursday morning in Philadelphia at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
The Jumbos (12-7) battled the Bulldogs hard, but Yale was too much and was able to take all nine matches, with six out of the nine matches being straight-set victories. The best match of the afternoon was at the No. 6 spot, where junior
Nieve Monderer faced off against Rashi Goverdhanam. Monderer took the second and third sets, but it wouldn't be enough as Goverdhanam would force a fifth set and bested Monderer to earn the victory 11-5, 7-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-3.
At the No. 7, spot senior
Sanjana Vissapragada took the second set from Lindsay Westerfield, but eventually was defeated in four sets 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5. At the No. 9 spot, freshman
Sora Karanja won the first set of the match, but then dropped the last three as she lost to Nina Mital in four sets.
The Jumbos got to this point of the season through some outstanding play by everyone on the roster. They made it to their third straight NESCAC final. They beat eight teams inside the CSA (College Squash Association) Top 20, achieved the second-best record in the NESCAC during the regular season, and held a top 20 spot in the CSA.
The Jumbos women's squash team will now compete in the consultation bracket of the tournament, which will begin tomorrow.
