PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 1, 2024) - The No. 12 ranked Tufts University women's squash team faced off against No. 9 Columbia University friday afternoon at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia P.A. in the consolation bracket of the CSA National Collegiate Team Championships.
The Jumbos (12-8) lost to the Lions 6-3, the Jumbos competed hard the whole competition. The Jumbos got wins from the No. 1 spot, the No. 7 spot, and the No. 8 spot. At the No. 1 spot, sophomore
Vharsha Dinesh dropped the first two sets but stormed back winning the next three sets to defeat Erica McGillicuddy in five sets 8-11, 3-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-9. Senior
Ellyn Xu competed at the No. 8 spot, she faced off against Uditi Mishra. Xu lost the first set but came back winning the next three sets to win in four 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. At the No. 7 spot, senior
Sanjana Vissapragada got the win from her opponent retiring from the match (no sets were played).
At the No. 6 spot, junior
Nieve Monderer competed against Eugenia Li she won the second and third sets but came up short as she lost a hard-fought match in five sets 15-13, 4-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6. At the No. 9 spot, freshman
Sora Karanja faced off against Renee Chan. Their match went the distance as Karanja fell in five sets 8-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6.
The Jumbos will continue to play in the consolation bracket as they have a match Saturday, March 2, time and the opponent is TBA.
