BRUNSWICK, ME (September 21, 2024) -- The Tufts University women's tennis squad saw their run through the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as all singles and doubles squads were eliminated from play at Bowdoin College.
Tufts first-year
Melanie Woodbury opened the day with a Round of 16 win over Bowdoin College's Jamilah Karah, but would fall to Wesleyan University's Jackie Soloveychick 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
In the "B" draw, first-year
Brooklyn Bindas knocked off Babson College's Alessandra Cristiani 7-6, 6-2 to move into the quarterfinals, but would fall in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-4 to No. 4 seed Zoe Sun of Bowdoin College. No. 3 seed
Evelina Anastasi also picked up a Round of 16 win over Babson's Elena Keitt 6-3, 6-1, but would fall to the Beaver's Grace Starcher 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 in the quarterfinals.
In doubles' action,
Melanie Woodbury and
Natalie Hu were topped by Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat from Middlebury College 8-6 in the Round of 16.
Ellie Gershaw and
Nikki Kintiroglou battled hard in the Round of 16, but were knocked off by Karolina Dobiecka and Tina She of Amherst College, 8-4.
Tufts will now compete in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament October 11-13.
