Wesleyan Upends Jumbos 2-1 in NESCAC Field Hockey Action

MIDDLETOWN, CT (September 28, 2025) - Host Wesleyan University scored twice in the second quarter to overtake Tufts University and earn a 2-1 NESCAC field hockey victory Saturday at Hicks Field

Seventh-ranked Tufts (6-2, 3-2 NESCAC) scored first on the ninth goal of the season by Andrea DelGiudice in the first quarter. However, the #14 Cardinals (6-2, 2-2) got goals from Teddy Tolbert and Brooke Miner just 77 seconds apart early in the second quarter to take the match-up of Top 15 teams. Miner's game-winner came on a penalty stroke.

DelGiudice's goal came during Tufts' first penalty corner chance of the day seven minutes into the action. After the insert by Kayleigh McDonald, DelGiudice converted with an assist to Hannah Biccard. The Jumbos would not allow a Wesleyan shot in the first quarter and led 1-0 after 15 minutes.

In fact, the only shots allowed by the Jumbos all game would come in the second quarter. The host Cardinals were advantageous though. Just one minute into the period Tolbert scored off Miner's assist. Then during Wesleyan's first penalty corner attempt of the game, they were awarded a stroke and Miner scored 1:17 into the second quarter.

Imani Ochieng put a shot on for Wesleyan shortly after, but Tufts' Lydia Eastburn made the save to keep it a one-goal game. The Jumbos would have two penalty corners later in the second, but Cardinal keeper Audrey Pace made a save on one of them and the other was defended without any shot attempted and Wesleyan led 2-1 at halftime.

The Cardinals would negate two Tufts corner opportunities and Pace made two saves in the third quarter. One more save by Pace and two more corners that Tufts could not capitalize on in the fourth - including the last one that resulted in a shot high by Kylie Rosenquest - ended the game at 2-1.

The Jumbos finished the game with advantages of 9-3 in shots (5-3 on goal) and 8-2 in corners. Pace was credited with four saves for Wesleyan while Eastburn had one for the Jumbos.

Tufts is now off all week before hosting Trinity College at Ounjian Field next Saturday.
