Women's Squash Makes History With 7-2 Defeat Of Dartmouth Wednesday

MEDFORD, MA (January 15, 2025) -- For the first time in program history, the Tufts women's squash team defeated an opponent from the Ivy League, knocking off No. 11 Dartmouth College 7-2 Wednesday afternoon in one of the best performances ever inside Tufts Squash Center. 

The Jumbos (3-5) came out ready to go after Saturday's win over Denison University out in San Diego, dominating early action against the visiting No. 11 Big Green (2-5). Tufts started the afternoon with a quick three-game win by senior Nieve Monderer, who defeated Maya Shroff 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6 to put the Jumbos up 1-0. Monderer now has a team-high four wins in 2024-25. 

Moments later, Vharsha Dinesh added another point to the ledger for Tufts as she tallied a strong 7-11, 14-12, 11-7 and 11-9 win for her second victory of the season. First-year Indira Moshi helped the Jumbos tack on another point to up the lead to 3-0, as she dispatched of Kriti Muthu 12-10, 11-7 and 11-6. Moshi improved to 2-3 at No. 8 this year. 

Tufts kept things rolling in the second wave as Maria Arsenieva pushed the Jumbos to within one match of the team win, as she cruised to an 11-8, 11-7 and 11-4 win over Chelsea Cho at No. 3. Arsenieva improved to 3-4 on the campaign, and 3-2 at the No. 3 position. 

The clinching point came at No. 6, as senior Aleezah Burhan rallied from a game deficit to pick up a thrilling 12-14, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 win to send her teammates into a frenzy. First-year Anika Goyal would keep the momentum going with a win at No. 5, as she topped Zayna Usman 9-11, 11-2, 11-6 and 11-4 for her second victory on the year. 

Dartmouth would pick up wins at No. 9 and No. 4 in the final wave, as Maya Manssor topped Riddhi Joshi 7-11, 11-3, 11-9, 14-12 at No. 4. At the No. 9 spot, Chloe Bergam fell 11-7, 10-12, 11-3 and 11-6 to Nathalie Taylor. The final match of the day was at No. 2, where first-year Sohni Vermani edged out her second win of the year with a five-game, reverse sweep win with scores of 4-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-8. 

The Jumbos will now head to No. 15 Amherst College on Friday, January 17 at 4 p.m. for another important match in Amherst, MA.
