AMHERST, MA (January 17, 2025) -- Down 3-1 through four matches at No. 13 Amherst College, the No. 11 Tufts University women's squash squad rallied and showed some resilience as the Jumbos pushed back to earn a hard-fought 5-4 win over the host Mammoths in action from Davenport Squash Courts Friday afternoon.
Tufts picked up the matches' first point of the afternoon thanks to another win by senior
Aleezah Burhan, who shook off Ella Miller at No. 6 11-1, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9 to pick up her third straight victory. The Mammoths would chalk up the next three victories to take a 3-1 lead, as Quincy Cline topped first-year
Sohni Vermani 3-11, 11-5, 14-12 and 11-6 at No. 2 to make it 1-1. At the No. 8 position, first-year
Indira Moshi led two games to one on Yana Sharma but the Amherst player battled back to take a 11-6, 10-12, 8-11, 13-11, 11-9 win.
The winning stretch continued for Amherst (7-4), as Brigid Brandon bested senior
Riddhi Joshi at No. 4 15-13, 11-9, 11-7 to make it 3-1.
The rally would start from that point for Tufts, as sophomore
Chloe Bergam took control of the match in the third game at No. 9 to earn an 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4 win to make it 3-2. Moments later, junior
Vharsha Dinesh won her second straight match with a strong 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 12-10 victory at No. 1 over Tanmai Pathak to tie the score at 3-3.
First-year
Anika Goyal continued the wins for Tufts (4-5) with a strong four-game win at No. 5, as she dispatched of Kristen Daniel 8-11, 11-7, 11-7 and 11-8 for a 4-3 lead. The clinching point would come at No. 7 for the Jumbos, as senior
Nieve Monderer tacked up her fifth win of the year with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 victory over Morgan Chaudhary to secure the third straight win for the Jumbos.
The final match would go the way of the Mammoths, as Alex Brown knocked off
Maria Arsenieva 6-11, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-6.
Tufts will be off for eight days before heading back on the road to take on No. 16 Middlebury College Saturday, January 25 in Middlebury, VT.
