MEDFORD, MA (January 7, 2024) - Eight Tufts University players were announced as 2024 Academic All-District® Football Team members today, as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Senior defensive lineman
Jemar Mack Jr., senior linebacker
Will Duncanson, senior quarterback
Luke Leongas, senior defensive lineman
Dom DeCrescenzo, junior kicker
Vaughn Seelicke, junior linebacker
Jeff Xu, senior wide receiver
Cade Moore and junior defensive back
Steven Rauso are the Jumbos to receive the honor.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must carry a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale). He must also have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started at least two-thirds of the team's contests. Teams are limited to eight nominees per year.
Mack (biopsychology major), Duncanson (economics), Leongas (economics), DeCrescenzo (architectural studies), Seelicke (economics), Xu (biology), Moore (economics) and Rauso (mechanical engineering) were members of head coach
Jay Civetti's 2024 Jumbos who finished 7-2 for second place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The 7-2 mark matched Tufts' best since 2016.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Certain Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 28, 2025.
