MIDDLEBURY, VT (October 18, 2025) -- In a battle of Top 10 teams in the recent United Soccer Coaches (USC) Division III Top 25 poll, the No. 3 Tufts University women's soccer team had solid chances but couldn't convert in settling for a 0-0 scoreless draw at No. 10 Middlebury College from Allan Dragone Track & Field Complex.
With the draw, the Jumbos (10-1-2, 6-1-2 NESCAC) stayed with a three-point edge on Williams College in the conference standings with just one game remaining. The draw did secure a NESCAC Tournament quarterfinal home game.
In the opening half, Tufts dominated possession and had the better run of play as it took 10 of the period's 12 shots. In the eighth minute, senior
Elsi Aires had a great attempt but her shot was stopped by a diving save by Middlebury keeper Livia Davidson.
The Jumbos continued to pour on the pressure, getting four corner kicks in the final six minutes of the half but none would yield a goal.
After halftime, Middlebury (9-1-3, 4-1-3 NESCAC) would get the best chances early in the frame, highlighted by back-to-back saves from junior
Gigi Edwards on shots from Chloe Swindle and Carolina Espinosa.
Tufts first-year Jordyn MIller had a shot saved in the 80th minute and a final chance with just less than three minutes by junior
Waverly Sumner was denied with another diving save to keep the game scoreless at full time.
The Jumbos finished with a 16-8 edge in the shot column, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. Tufts also was awarded eight of the game's 10 corner kicks.
Edwards finished with six saves for her fifth shutout of the season, while Davidson had nine stops in the draw.
Tufts returns to action Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on the road at Bridgewater State University in the final non-conference tilt of the season.
