Dominant Second Half Gives Field Hockey 5-1 Victory at Trinity

HARTFORD, CT (October 4, 2025) - The #8 Tufts University field hockey team exploded for three goals in the third quarter to take over the game and earn a 5-1 NESCAC victory at Trinity College on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the Jumbos' 12th in a row over the Bantams dating back to 2015. Tufts improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in NESCAC with the win. Trinity falls to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Tufts was led by two goals from first-year Eleanor Helm, who now has seven goals and four assists (18 points) in her first 10 games as a Jumbo. Junior Lilly Ragusa finished with a goal and two assists, senior Hannah Biccard scored her ninth goal of the season and defender Gabby Sousa also tallied for Tufts.

Trinity had taken a 1-0 lead on a corner when Brooke DiBiase blasted a shot in from the top of the circle five minutes into the second quarter.

Tufts would tie the score right before halftime. On a restart from the right corner, Kate Wahler brought the ball towards the circle and fired a pass to the front. It deflected over to Helm, who lifted a back-hander into the cage with 55 seconds on the clock.

The Jumbos would take control in the third quarter. Helm scored again after taking a short pass from Ragusa on the left side and rolling a shot through the defense that snuck inside the right post.

Less than 90 seconds later, Tufts was up 3-1 lead on Biccard's goal. Ragusa controlled an outside pass from Eleanor Luft and tapped it over to Biccard. She opened up space for a shot and blasted one in from the top of the circle.

The Jumbos' third goal of the quarter came on a corner with six minutes remaining in the frame. The insert by Sophie Brants went out to Luft at the top of the circle. She sent it right to Sousa next to her, and Sousa slid a shot past the goalkeeper for a 4-1 Tufts lead.

Ragusa capped her fine game with an unassisted goal five minutes into the fourth frame. On a restart, she moved into the right side of the circle and with a defender on her sent a bouncing shot in to the cage for the 5-1 Tufts advantage.

Tufts' second-half dominance included no shots and no corners allowed to Trinity. The Jumbos finished with overall advantages of 22-6 and 12-6 in both categories, respectively. Bantam starting goalie Hayley Gable made four saves before she was relieved by Sydney Korkosz who made one stop in the final nine minutes. Lydia Eastburn made one save for the Jumbos.
