Maes, Ganchev Move Into Doubles' Semis At ITA Regionals

Rich, Tremblay Advance To Semifinals in "B" Draw

MEDFORD, MA (October 4, 2025) -- Seniors Alex Ganchev and Sacha Maes moved into the semifinals of the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regionals on Sunday, as the pair chalked up two wins to highlight action Saturday afternoon. 

Maes and Ganchev started the day with a quick 8-3 win over Reif Larsen and Nathan Hernandez of Middlebury. In the quarterfinals, the No. 1 seeded Jumbo pair knocked off Tyler Li and Hunter Liao 8-2 to move into Sunday's semifinals against Nicholas Chen and Simon Volkema of Williams College. 

The Jumbos had a chance to have all four of their doubles' teams in the semifinals on Sunday, but three of the four groups would drop their quarterfinal matches. Nico Tremblay and Anirudh Dhanwada won their first match of the day 8-2 over Andrew Mendelson and Cameron Dia of Bowdoin, but would fall 8-7 (4) in the quarters to Chen and Volkema. 

The No. 3 seed in the bracket Javier Gonzalez and Kaetan Mehta won 8-1 in the Round of 16 over Chase Kasday and Ryuto Saito of Wesleyan, but were bested 8-3 in the quarters by Bowdoin's Kiran Garapati and Simon Catanzaro. 

Sophomore Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and first-year Jackson Rich were winners in their Round of 16 bout 8-3 but ran out of gas in the Round of 8, falling to Sebastian Mendoza and Ed Wang of Babson 8-2. 

In the main singles' draw, Garv Bahl was the lone Tufts participant to make it to the quarterfinals. The junior knocked off Julian Wu of Middlebury 7-6 (2), 6-1 in the Round of 16, but fell 7-6 (5), 7-5 in the quarterfinals to Alex Merson of Babson College. 

Andrej Djokic won his first set against Merson in the Round of 16, but couldn't hold on as he fell 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Mastrogamvrakis also fell in three sets in the Round of 16, dropping a 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 decision to Andrew Mendelson of Bowdoin. 

In the "B" draw, Tufts saw two competitors stay alive with a chance at a singles' title. Tremblay, the No. 2 seed, rolled past Tyler Li of MIT 6-2, 6-1 before cruising into the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-1 quarterfinal win over Sourish Gaghi of Babson. He will battle Jack Ling of Williams in Sunday's semifinals. 

Rich also made it to the semifinals with two wins in the "B" draw, as he started the day with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Hunter Liao of MIT. He then outlasted Albert Hu of Amherst College 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, advancing to Sunday's semifinals where he will meet Brandeis's Aidan Wang-Fan. 

First-year Matej Djokic fell in his Round of 16 match to Jack Pollack of Bowdoin, 6-4, 7-6 (5). 

The third and final day will begin at Voute Courts at Tufts Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
