Women's Soccer Honored With Five as USC Announce Women's Soccer Awards

MEDFORD, MA (December 4, 2025) -- The United Soccer Coaches (USC) announced the 2025 All-American and All-Region squads this week, and the Tufts University women's soccer team saw two players earn All-American accolades while five were selected to the USC All-Region 1 squads.

Senior Elsi Aires was selected as a USC All-American and All-Region First Team pick, while Reese Birch was named to the USC All-American Second Team along with an All-Region 1 First Team pick. Senior Lena Sugrue was picked to the All-Region 1 First Team squad, and Caroline Kelly was the fourth Jumbo on the All-Region First Team. Junior Emily Nicholas was selected to the USC All-Region 1 Second Team.

Aires, who was named as the NESCAC Player of the Year for second straight season, has posted 11 goals and five assists on the season. Aires is second all-time in goals and points at Tufts all-time, as she leads the team with four game-winning goals. Aires also led the NESCAC in shots with 113.

Birch had a breakout season for the Jumbos with a team-high 29 points, scoring 11 goals while handing out seven assists for 29 points. Birch has one game-winning goal, but had an eight-game points streak including posting six goals during that stretch. Birch was an All-NESCAC First Team honoree.

Sugrue was the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year this, as she helped the Jumbos to 14 shutouts as Tufts has allowed just 10 goals. The team captain has also added three goals and four assists offensively, including two game-winning goals.

Kelly missed the end of the season but is still the team's third-leading scorer having posted 17 points on four goals and nine assists in 13 games played. Kelly has netted two game-winners on the season.

Nicholas has started all but one of her 22 games played this season, having assisted on five goals while scoring two others. The junior midfielder has posted two game-winning goals on the season, and has played the full game in the last three NCAA contests.

Tufts will take on Emory University in the NCAA Tournament semifinals Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Salem, VA.
