Tufts Women's Squash NESCAC Runners-Up For Fourth Straight Season

HARTFORD, CT (February 9, 2025) -- The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team knocked off No. 3 seed Amherst College 5-4 Sunday morning in a thriller in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) semifinals before dropping the NESCAC final to No. 2 Trinity College 9-0 in action from Kellner Squash Courts on the campus of Trinity College.

The Jumbos earn their fourth straight runner-up finish in the NESCAC Tournament, while Trinity wins its 18th straight NESCAC title as the Bantams are the only school to ever win the NESCAC title in squash.

Tufts started the day with a back-and-forth instant classic against Amherst, as the clinching victory for Tufts came with the score 4-3. In the eighth match to be completed, first-year Indira Moshi posted a three-game win at No. 9 to send the Jumbos to the NESCAC finals.

Sophomore Chloe Bergam started the match with an 11-6, 15-13, 5-11, 11-5 win at No. 8 over Yana Sharma, followed by a win by senior Aleezah Burhan over Ella Miller 12-10, 9-11, 11-5 and 11-6.

Amherst evened the match at two wins apiece before first-year Anika Goyal put Tufts back on top with a win at No. 5 after an 11-5, 11-9 and 11-9 win over Kristen Daniel.

The Mammoths would get a win at No. 3 to tie the match again, but senior Riddhi Joshi continued her great play of late with a three-game win over Brigid Brandon 11-5, 12-10 and 11-3 to make it 4-3 to set up the 11-9, 11-9 and 12-10 win for Moshi.

In the finals, Tufts pushed the Bantams in many of the matches, as sophomore Maria Arsenieva won a game at No. 2 in a 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 13-11 loss. Senior Nieve Monderer played a thrilling five-game match at No. 6, falling to Varvara Kliueva 11-8, 11-4, 5-11, 6-11, 11-8.

In exhibition action, first-year Anika Parr knocked off Princess Davenport 11-5, 11-5 and 11-1, while Moshi played well at No. 8 despite an 11-4, 12-10, 11-6 loss.
