PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 6 University of Virginia women's squash team secured a big 8-1 win over #11 Tufts University on Thursday at the Arlen Specter Squash Center in the first day of action at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships.
Virginia's win was highlighted by strong performances at the top and bottom of the lineup.
At No. 1, Meagan Best set the tone with a decisive 3-0 victory over Vharsha Dinesh (11-3, 11-4, 11-4). Lina Tammam followed with a hard-fought four-game win at No. 2, while Maria Moya, Maureen Foley, and Clare Minnis all delivered straight-game victories for the Cavaliers.
Tufts secured its lone win at the No. 3 position, where Riddhi Joshi defeated Maria Min in four games (11-7, 10-12, 11-2, 11-7).
In a competitive battle at No. 9, Virginia's Claire Pellegrino overcame a first-game deficit to defeat Chloe Bergam (8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8), sealing the dominant team win.
Virginia moves to 10-5 on the season, while Tufts falls to 10-8.
