Gonzalez, Vuksanovic Drop Three-Set Thriller To Finish As Doubles National Runners-Up

CLAREMONT, CA (May 26, 2025) -- Senior Vuk Vuksanovic and junior Javier Gonzalez battled hard through heat and what seemed like an endless week of tennis, finishing as the 2025 Division III NCAA Doubles runners-up after falling in three sets in the national title match Monday afternoon at Biszantz Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Gonzalez and Vuksanovic battled No. 2 seed Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero of the University of Chicago in the final Monday, and it was one of the best matches of the entire tournament.

In the first set, the Chicago duo picked up a break and ended up earning a 6-4 victory to claim the opening set. The Jumbos pair battled back thanks to picking up a break and taking the second frame, 6-4.

In the third and final set, the squads pushed back and forth before heading to tiebreaker for a title. In the tiebreaker, Leonov and Otero led 6-5 and picked up a winner to clinch the victory and the doubles national title.

The runner-up finish for the Jumbos was the first for a doubles team in the NCAA Championships in program history.
