HENLEY-ON-THAMES, ENGLAND – The Tufts University women's rowing team just missed qualifying for The Island Challenge Cup races at the Henley Royal Regatta (HRR) on Friday.
In a time trial, the Jumbos covered the one-mile and 550-yard course in a 7:26.05 time for the 17th fastest mark out of 31 total boats that competed. They needed to be among the 13 fastest to continue onto The Island Challenge Cup and were eliminated.
The line-up for Tufts was coxswain
Hannah Jiang, stroke
Rose Tinkjian, 7-seat
Janna Moore, 6-seat
Stella Shen, 5-seat
Emma Lyle, 4-seat
Reilly Uiterwyk, 3-seat
Lucy Howell, 2-seat Samara Haynes and bow
Josie Monroe.
This was the first time in 20 years that Tufts Women's Rowing competed in a Henley regatta. Previously, the 2005 crew raced at the Henley Women's Regatta, as at the time, HRR did not include women's races. The Women's Henley races are on the same course as HRR, but earlier in the month, shorter, and only for women's crews. This year marked the first time the Tufts Women's 8+ rowed at the Henley Royal Regatta.
Held annually, the Henley Royal Regatta was established in 1839 and features racing on the River Thames by the town of Henley-on-Thames, England. The regatta attracts international crews to compete and hundreds of thousands of spectators.
This caps an extraordinary 2024-25 season for the Jumbos in which they won their second consecutive NCAA, NESCAC and Head of the Charles titles.
