Box Score WORCESTER, MA (September 10, 2025) -- The Tufts University volleyball team spread out the offensive output, while holding host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to only 25 kills as the Jumbos ran their win streak to three with a sweep of the Engineers Wednesday.
The Jumbos topped WPI with scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-12.
Once again it was Tufts (4-1) ability to spread the ball around, as six players had five or more kills led by the eight from sophomore right side
Maiwenn Kamdje. She hit .353 for the match.
In the first set, Tufts led for the majority of the set before WPI rallied back to pull to within one at 19-18. Tufts quickly responded to the three-point run by the Engineers with points in six of the next seven to take the opening period. Junior
Rianna Liu sealed the win with an ace at 24-19.
In the second set, Tufts offense would lead the way as it hammered down 17 kills in the frame while hitting .233 to lead the entire set.
The hot hitting poured into the third set for the Jumbos, as Tufts hit a blistering .355 on 31 attempts while holding WPI to only four kills and -.129 hitting to clinch the win.
Senior
Julia Griffiths was solid in the middle, posting seven kills and six total blocks (three solo), and junior right side
Emma Heckman added seven kills and two assisted blocks. Sophomore
Keller Mobley had a career-high seven terminations, adding another career-high with 11 digs.
Senior
Emma Norman added six kills for the Jumbos, and junior
Bridget Lonergan hit .417 with five kills and four total rejections in the middle.
Both Tufts setters continued to play well, as Liu recorded 19 assists and seven digs while
Ellery Clark finished with 18 helpers and eight digs. Sophomore libero
Matsa Shi finished with 15 digs, a match-high, and
Becca DePencier Piñero recorded five digs off the bench. Newcomer Amanda Freehil also posted six digs in the win.
Tufts finished with 44 kills on 114 attempts, hitting .254 for the match. The Jumbos also held a 5-1 edge in service aces as well as a 60-48 edge in digs for the contest.
Olivia Hutchinson had a team-high seven kills for the Engineers, and Alana Harris had 14 digs for WPI.
Tufts will have two days off before traveling to Hoboken, NJ to take on Stevens Institute of Technology and Drew University in a non-conference tri-match starting at 11:30 a.m.
