CAMBRIDGE, MA (September 26, 2025) -- The Tufts University men's tennis squad started its 2025-26 season Friday afternoon at the 2025 MIT Invitational, opening with a pair of sweeps in doubles' action over both MIT and Wesleyan University.
The Jumbos earned all three doubles' matches against the host Engineers, as seniors
Sacha Maes and
Alex Ganchev picked up an 8-6 win at the No. 1 slot. At No. 2,
Javier Gonzalez and newcomer transfer
Kaetan Mehta cruised to an 8-4 victory. At the No. 3 spot, first-year
Jackson Rich and sophomore
Nico Tremblay pushed to an 8-5 win at the No. 3 position.
Tufts also picked up a win over Wesleyan in their three doubles' tilts, as Maes and Ganchev rolled to an 8-4 win at the No. 1 position. Rich and sophomore
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis swept their Cardinal foes at No. 2 8-0, while sophomore
Eren Cheung and junior
Garv Bahl posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. At No. 4, juniors
Davide Mirza and
Takehiro Shuda tallied an 8-6 win to complete the unblemished mark for Tufts Friday.
Action will continue Saturday afternoon at the MIT Invitational, as Tufts will take on Bowdoin College in singles action at 11 a.m. followed by singles' play against Wesleyan at 3 p.m. and doubles' play against Amherst College at 5 p.m.
