MIDDLEBURY, VT (September 27, 2025) -- The Tufts University women's tennis team saw its run through the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional come to an end Saturday.
Sophomore
Melanie Woodbury, the No. 3 seed in the "A" draw fell to seeded Saina Deshpande of MIT 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Teammate
Athena Li played a thriller against Gusty Beveridge of Middlebury College, but fell in the Round of 16 with a score of 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1.
Senior
Ellie Gershaw, who was a seeded player at 9-16, played second-seed Fiona Lee of MIT and was defeated 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles' play,
Claudia Grove and
Lucy Mitchell were defeated in the Round of 16 by Chloe Zeng and Carley Chen of MIT, 8-3. Woodbury and
Ryan Wuhrman were also bested by No. 7 seed Sarah Youngberg and Mariia Kornilova of Wesleyan, 8-4.
In the "B" singles draw, Grove earned a Round of 16 win over Naomi Williams of Bowdoin College, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (7) to move into the Quarterfinals. Grove would then fall to Alaina Kolli of MIT in the Round of 8.
Tufts will compete in the Bowdoin College Invitational October 10-12.
