CAMBRIDGE, MA (September 28, 2025) -- The Tufts University men's tennis team had a strong weekend at the MIT Invitational, winning all five matches over Saturday and Sunday's action.
On Saturday, Tufts started singles' action against Bowdoin College and had a strong effort as senior
Alex Ganchev knocked won his match at No. 1 4-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6). Junior
Garv Bahl was a straight set winner with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2, while senior
Sacha Maes posted a win at No. 3 6--1, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (2). Sophomore
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis topped his Polar Bear opponent at No. 5 6-2, 6-1, and first-year
Jackson Rich won at the No. 7 spot 6-2, 6-2.
Later in the day, Tufts also win seven of eight singles' matches against Wesleyan as Bahl opened play at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Maes doubled his win total at No. 2 with a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (9) win in a super tiebreaker, and Mastrogamvrakis also rolled in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. In the No. 4 spot,
Eren Cheung posted a 6-4, 6-4 win, while Rich also earned a straight set victory at No. 5 with scores of 6-2, 6-3. First-year
Matej Djokic picked up his first win as a Jumbo with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6, while junior
Takehiro Shuda was victorious at No. 8 6-1, 7-6 (2).
The final match of the day on Saturday came in doubles, as Tufts swept by Amherst in their three matches. Ganchev and Maes were 8-6 winners at No. 1, while sophomore
Kaetan Mehta teamed with
Javier Gonzalez to pick up an 8-6 victory at No. 2. Sophomore
Nico Tremblay and Rich also won 8-6 at No. 3 to close the day's action.
On Sunday, Tufts took on Bowdoin in doubles and won all four matches led by Maes and Ganchev at No. 1 8-7 (1). Tremblay and Gonzalez paired up to win 8-1 at the No. 2 spot, while Mehta and Bahl coasted to an 8-2 win at No. 3. At the No. 4 spot, Mastrogamvrakis and
Matej Djokic won 8-3.
The final match of the weekend for Tufts came against Colby College in singles, as Tufts went 6-2 in the eight individual matches. Bahl won at No. 1 in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 followed by a Mastrogamvrakis victory at No. 2 6-2, 6-1.
Andrej Djokic dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 while Cheung posted a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Rich continued his winning ways with a tight 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (9) win at the No. 5 position while Shuda also rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Jumbos will host the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regionals this upcoming weekend starting on Friday morning.
