Liu Earns Second NESCAC Player of the Week Award

MEDFORD, MA (September 29, 2025) -- The Tufts University volleyball team continued its winning ways this past week, posting three victories including a triumph over No. 6 Johns Hopkins to up its win streak to 10, thanks in part to the play of junior setter Rianna Liu who was named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week.

The honor was Liu's second of the season and of her career, as her second in the last three weeks. She's also the first Tufts player to earn more than one Player of the Week award in one season since Maddie Stewart picked up the honor twice in the 2019 season.

For the week, Liu posted 70 assists including a 6-2 offense mark of 5.83 assists per set. The junior saw 42.9 percent of her sets converted for kills and recorded five aces and 23 digs. In a four-set win over Brandeis, Liu posted 22 assists, an ace, and five digs. In a 3-1 win over Bates, the setter added 28 assists, three aces, and 10 digs for the fifth double-double of the season. In Saturday's 3-1 win over Johns Hopkins, Liu had 20 assists, eight digs, and one ace.

For the season, Liu ranks in the top 10 in the NESCAC in assists and aces while ranking 14th in digs.

Liu helped the Jumbos continue their longest win streak since 2021.

Tufts and her teammates are back in action on Friday evening, taking on Williams College at 7 p.m. in NESCAC play inside Cousens Gymnasium.
