Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Hoops Drops Heartbreaker To Colby Saturday, 67-64

MEDFORD, MA (January 10, 2026) -- Sophomore forward Abi Stone came off the bench to score a game and career-high 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting, but visiting Colby College was able to outscore the Tufts University women's basketball team 7-0 over the final 2:25 to pick up a 67-64 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play Saturday.

Stone came into the weekend averaging 4.5 points per game on the season, but scored 14 Friday evening against Bowdoin before upping her career-high from Friday to 21 on Saturday. Stone was a combined 16-for-24 (67.7 percent) from the floor as well over the last two games.

The Jumbos and Mules played a back-and-forth game as the lead changed hands 13 times while the game featured 10 ties as well. Colby (9-4, 2-0 NESCAC) led by two after the first 10 minutes, and took a six-point lead with 8:28 to go in the first half but Tufts (7-7, 0-2 NESCAC) came back to take a 25-24 lead on a jumper from Annie Ryan with five minutes left in the second quarter.

After Colby led by one at the break 34-33, the Mules quickly increased their edge up to 10 with 7:43 to play in the third quarter after a lay-up by Kate Olenik. Sophomore Claire Kolkhorst answered right back with a three-pointer to start an 8-0 run to pull the Jumbos to within two at 43-41.

The Mules continued to lead until right after the fourth quarter, when first-year Abby Congdon nailed a three-pointer with 8:09 left in regulation to make it 55-52. The Jumbos led by four with 2:25 to go after a bucket from Stone, making the score 64-60. Tufts saw Colby climb back into the game, taking the lead at 65-64 with 48 seconds to go.

The Jumbos would get fouled on their next possession, but both free throw attempts would not fall. Tufts got the offensive rebound of the missed attempt and was fouled again, but again the Jumbos would miss both free throws before having to foul.

After two free throws by the Mules, Tufts had two three-point attempts to tie the game but neither would fall as the Jumbos dropped the heart breaker.

First-year Tessa Lozner finished with 12 points and five assists for the Jumbos, while Congdon added eight points and four rebounds. Kolkhorst was in foul trouble all game, but still added eight points in just 18 minutes. Senior Annie Aspesi tallied five points and six rebounds, and Siobhan Stapleton also grabbed a team-high six caroms.

Tufts shot a very strong 49 percent from the field on the game (25-51), but make just 60 percent at the line (9-15) which was the difference.

Olenik had 17 points in the win for Colby, while Caroline Hartley came off the bench to pour in 14 as she made six of her eight field goals.

Tufts is off until Friday evening, heading on the road to take on Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts at 7 p.m. in NESCAC play.
