SPRINGFIELD, VA (January 17, 2026) -- The No. 11 Tufts University women's squash team dropped a 9–0 decision to No. 6 University of Virginia on Friday afternoon at The St. James in Springfield, Va.
The match featured several competitive battles throughout the lineup, highlighted by a marathon five-game contest at the No. 3 position. Sophomore Anika Goyal pushed Virginia's Clare Minnis to the limit, forcing a decisive fifth game after splitting the first four, before Minnis ultimately prevailed, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5, 13-15, 13-11, in one of the most tightly contested matches of the afternoon.
At the No. 8 spot, Mafi Pinot also opened her match strongly, capturing the first game before Virginia's Anniston Mahaffy responded to take the match in four games. Tufts continued to battle across the order against a deep and experienced Cavaliers squad ranked sixth nationally.
Virginia secured straight-game victories at the top of the lineup, while Tufts gained valuable experience against a nationally elite opponent as the Jumbos continue through a challenging mid-season stretch.
Tufts is off before hosting Williams Saturday, January 31 in Tufts Squash Center.
