MIDDLETOWN, CT (January 23, 2026) – Jumbos netminder
Gus Bylin stuffed a season-high 38 shots as Tufts University tallied a goal in each frame to take a 3-1 win over Wesleyan University in NESCAC action at Spurrier-Snyder Rink.
Tufts secured their second consecutive victory to improve to 4-5-0 in the NESCAC, while Wesleyan registered a third consecutive loss and falls to 5-10-0 overall on the season.
The Jumbos jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a tally from
Brendan Fennell at 17:59. Along the right side of the offensive zone
Ethan Ullrick wristed a shot which was blocked towards goal by a Wesleyan defender, with the puck loose in front of the crease
Max Resnick tapped a pass to Fennell who lifted it past Patrick McDevitt.
The Jumbos took a two-goal advantage with 12:57 remaining in the second period.
John Mulvihill won an offensive zone faceoff back to
Maddox Lizotte, Lizotte ripped a shot towards goal, and
Marcus Sang picked up the puck in the slot and fired it into the bottom right corner of the goal.
With just under three minutes remaining in the second, Wesleyan cut their deficit in half with a power-play marker from Connor Sutherland. From the left point, Jack Bosco shoved the puck along the boards to Danny Judge behind the net, Judge then found Sutherland cutting towards the slot for score.
The Cardinals pulled their goalie with 1:41 remaining in the final frame but were unable to penetrate the Jumbos zone. Resnick tallied an empty netter just five seconds after the extra skater was brought on. Resnick caused a turnover in the neutral zone and put the puck into the empty cage from center ice to cement the win for the Jumbos.
McDevitt collected 24 saves for the Cardinals. However, Bylin conceded just one goal for the fourth time this season in the win.
Wesleyan led the shot department 39-27. The Jumbos could not take advantage on the power play as they finished 0 for 3. Wesleyan was 1 for 5 on the man advantage.
