WATERVILLE, MAINE (January 9, 2025) -- The No. 10 Tufts University women's squash team delivered a dominant and composed performance on Friday afternoon, rolling past No. 17 Colby College by an 8-1 score at the Dunaway Squash Courts in Waterville, Maine.
The victory marked Tufts' fourth win of the season and showcased the Jumbos' impressive depth, balance, and ability to control matches throughout the ladder against a nationally ranked opponent.
Tufts set the tone early by seizing command of the middle and lower parts of the order, quickly building an insurmountable advantage. After Colby picked up its lone point at the top of the lineup, the Jumbos responded emphatically, rattling off eight straight victories to close out the match and underscore their status as one of the nation's top programs.
At the No. 2 position, Maria Arseniev turned in one of the most convincing performances of the afternoon, dispatching Nathalie Sim in straight games, 11-7, 11-5, 11-3. Arseniev controlled the tempo from the opening serve, consistently applying pressure with length and precision and leaving little room for her opponent to settle into rhythm.
Sohni Vermani followed with a hard-fought win at No. 3, showing both resilience and composure in a four-game victory over Abhisheka David. Vermani captured the first two games by matching David shot-for-shot and capitalizing on key points late in each frame. After dropping the third, Vermani responded decisively in the fourth, jumping out early and closing the match with an 11-4 game to give Tufts another critical point.
At No. 4, Anika Goyal continued the Jumbos' surge with a poised straight-game win over Maggie Motch. Goyal was steady throughout, winning 11-6, 11-6, and 11-8 while keeping rallies on her terms and limiting unforced errors. Her performance further highlighted Tufts' strength in the heart of the lineup.
The Jumbos were especially dominant in the lower half of the order. Chloe Bergam cruised to an authoritative 3-0 victory at No. 5, overpowering Tattie Gibbs with aggressive play and strong court coverage. Bergam bookended the match with identical 11-3 games and edged a tightly contested second game 12-10 to maintain complete control.
Sejal Virk kept the momentum rolling at No. 6, earning a straight-game win over Resika Rajarathinam. Virk's consistency and patience paid dividends, as she steadily pulled away in each game to post 11-6, 11-8, and 11-8 scores.
One of the most emphatic performances of the day came from Indira Moshi at No. 7. Moshi was nearly flawless in an 11-2, 11-4, 11-0 sweep of Amanda Miller, showcasing her ability to dictate points from start to finish. Her decisive win further emphasized Tufts' depth and left no doubt about the outcome of the match.
Anika Parr added another straight-game victory at No. 8, defeating Tori Thill 11-5, 11-7, 11-7. Parr remained composed in each game, closing out points efficiently and keeping Colby from mounting any sustained runs.
At No. 9, Mafi Pinot capped the scoring for Tufts with a four-game win over Haley Coon. After splitting the first two games, Pinot elevated her play in the closing frames, taking the third 11-9 and pulling away in the fourth, 11-4, to secure the Jumbos' eighth point.
Tufts will take on No. 18 Bowdoin College at noon Saturday in Brunswick.
