ENFIELD, NH (November 1, 2026) - Tufts Women's Sailing used a two-race Sunday to pull even with Roger Williams and take second place on a head-to-head tie-breaker at the Victorian Urn Trophy hosted by Dartmouth. It's the team's best finish at the regatta - which represents the New England fall championship - since the 2000 team won it 26 years ago.
The Jumbo A and B division teams combined to score just eight points in Races 11 and 12 today, the fewest of any team, to finish with 129. Roger Williams also finished with 129, and Tufts was placed ahead on the tiebreaker. Harvard won the regatta with 79 points. Brown (140), Yale (142) and Dartmouth (146) rounded out the top five.
Following 10 A and B races on Saturday Tufts was in fifth with 121 points, behind Harvard (66), Roger Williams (99), Brown (115) and Yale (119). The Jumbos were 22 behind Roger Williams, and just six back of Brown and two behind Yale.Â
The comeback started in Race 11 on Sunday. Tufts took a third in A and a second in B for five points, the best score in the race, while Roger Williams scored 21 after a 15th in A. That moved Tufts from fifth to third at 126, six points behind the Hawks.
The Jumbos closed in Race 12 with a second in A and a win in B for three points, again the best in the fleet. Roger Williams scored nine, which put the two teams level at 129.
On Sunday for Tufts, sophomore
Maddie Janzen skippered A's with senior
Eloise Goedkoop as crew. Junior skipper
Sophia Hubbard and first-year crew Fiona Barbetil were the B squad. For the weekend, Tufts' A division finished with 66 points and its B division with 63, both fourth in their groups.Â
This was the final event of the fall season. The team will return to action in the spring.
